EL PASO, Texas — The BSR Boys High School Basketball Power Rankings presented by P2C Athlete Prep have been released earlier than usual this week following one of the most dramatic stretches of the season in El Paso and the Borderland high school basketball scene.

A historic win streak ended.

Multiple Top 5 teams suffered losses.

And for the first time in weeks, there is a brand-new No. 1 team in the region.

The biggest headline came when Burges delivered one of the most shocking wins of the season, ending Chapin’s incredible 59-game win streak. The Mustangs not only made history but sent a powerful message to the entire Borderland — no team is unbeatable as the postseason approaches.

Montwood followed with a statement victory over Eastlake, further shaking up the playoff landscape and proving that the gap between contenders is razor thin. Coronado also suffered a loss, creating even more uncertainty at the top.

With the chaos unfolding across the region, only two Top 5 teams avoided defeat this week: Americas and El Dorado. Because of their consistency, toughness, and strong late-season momentum, the Trailblazers now take over the No. 1 spot in the Borderland, while El Dorado rises to No. 2.

The shift reflects a growing belief that this season’s championship race is wide open. Records and early-season dominance are no longer the primary indicators of postseason success. Momentum, confidence, and resilience have become the defining traits for teams hoping to make deep playoff runs.

Americas has shown the ability to win in different ways and continues to prove they can handle pressure situations. El Dorado has emerged as one of the toughest and most disciplined teams in the region, making them a legitimate contender to reach the later rounds of the postseason.

Meanwhile, Montwood’s win over Eastlake has positioned the Rams as a dangerous matchup for anyone in the bracket. Eastlake, despite the loss, remains one of the most complete teams in the Borderland and cannot be overlooked.

“This may be the most wide-open playoff race we’ve seen in years,” said FSEN Founder Steve Howard. “Every contender has shown vulnerability, and right now momentum matters more than records.”

Burges may now be the most intriguing team in the region. After snapping Chapin’s historic streak, the Mustangs have gained confidence and belief at exactly the right time. Teams that peak late in the season often become the most difficult to stop in March.

What This Means for the Playoffs

Fan Debate: Who Wins It All?

Is Americas the new favorite?

Did Burges just become the most dangerous team?

Will Eastlake or Chapin respond when it matters most?

Borderland fans now have more questions than answers — and that’s exactly what makes this postseason so compelling.

With one week left in the regular season, there is no clear favorite in the Borderland. Several contenders still have an opportunity to build momentum and make a statement before the postseason begins.

Several teams have proven they can compete at a championship level. The margin for error is slim, and every possession will matter as the postseason begins.

Americas brings momentum.

El Dorado brings toughness.

Montwood brings confidence.

Eastlake brings experience.

Burges brings belief.

The biggest question now is simple:

With one week remaining, the race for momentum, seeding, and confidence is wide open.  The question is simple:  who will enter the playoffs playing their best basketball?

This final week will tell us everything.

FSEN will provide expanded playoff coverage, including game breakdowns, interviews, and exclusive content throughout the postseason.
