Area Round Recap: Burges, Andress Advance as Borderland Moves Into Regional Semifinals


EL PASO, Texas — The UIL Area Round wrapped up Friday night with several intense matchups across the state. While multiple Borderland programs saw their seasons come to an end, two teams will carry the region into the Regional Semifinals.


✔️ Burges High School advances in thriller


Burges delivered one of the most exciting games of the night, edging Palo Duro 74–72 to continue its postseason run. The Mustangs’ late-game composure and execution once again proved to be the difference as they secured a spot in the Regional Semifinals.


Burges now moves forward as one of the hottest teams in the region and will look to keep that momentum going in the next round.


✔️ Andress High School keeps season alive


Andress picked up a signature postseason win, defeating Abilene Wylie 69–64 to advance. The Eagles’ strong finish continues a season defined by growth and resilience.


With the victory, Andress joins Burges as the Borderland’s remaining representatives in the UIL boys basketball playoffs.


❌ Franklin High School falls to Eaton


Franklin’s season ended in a 64–35 loss to V.R. Eaton, as the Cougars struggled to find offensive rhythm against one of the state’s top defensive programs.


❌ Eastwood High School falls to Mansfield


Eastwood battled but came up short in a 76–58 loss to Mansfield, closing out another strong season in Class 6A.


❌ Chapin High School season ends vs. Tascosa


Chapin’s postseason run ended in a 64–35 loss to Tascosa, concluding a competitive year for the Huskies.


❌ Americas High School falls in defensive battle


Americas came up just short in a 40–38 loss to Amarillo, as its elite defensive identity kept the Trailblazers within striking distance until the final possession.


❌ Clint High School falls to Pampa


Clint’s playoff run concluded with a 53–37 loss to Pampa, ending a strong season for the Lions.



What’s Next: Regional Semifinals


With the Area Round complete, Burges and Andress will now prepare for the Regional Semifinals as the Borderland looks to continue its postseason presence.


The competition only intensifies from this point forward, with every game bringing teams one step closer to the UIL state tournament.
