EL PASO, Texas — District play is complete. Champions have been crowned. The postseason has arrived.
The 2025-26 Borderland girls basketball playoff field features two undefeated district champions, multiple 20-win teams, and several programs entering on significant winning streaks.
Here’s how the postseason landscape shapes up.
Tier 1: Proven and Peaking
Montwood High School (24-5, 12-0 District)
Undefeated in 6A district play and riding a 15-game winning streak, Montwood enters the playoffs as the standard in the Borderland. The Rams dominated one of the region’s toughest classifications and carry both momentum and confidence into the bracket.
Americas High School (27-4, 11-1 District)
Americas secured the outright 1-5A title and owns victories over every other top El Paso team, with just one slip-up in the city. Their aggressive backcourt defense forces tempo and turnovers — an identity that travels well in postseason basketball.
Burges High School (23-7, 10-0 District)
A perfect 10-0 district campaign and a 16-game winning streak highlight Burges’ late-season surge. The Mustangs enter as one of the hottest teams in the region.
Tier 2: Dangerous and Capable of a Deep Run
Franklin High School (21-10, 10-2 District)
Second in 1-6A behind Montwood, Franklin has gone 15-2 over its last 17 games. Competing nightly in 6A builds toughness, and the Cougars are peaking at the right time.
Eastwood High School (22-8, 8-4 District)
Eastwood finished third in 1-6A with an impressive 22-8 overall record. Their only El Paso losses came against Montwood, Franklin (twice), and Americas — the very top tier of the region.
Against everyone else, the Troopers were dominant, winning by an average of 20+ points per game in district play. The postseason question is simple: can they break through against elite competition?
Bel Air High School (17-11, 9-3 District)
Bel Air remains the only El Paso team to defeat Americas this season, snapping a 45-game winning streak. Winners of 9 of their last 11 games, the Highlanders bring confidence and belief into the bracket.
Tier 3: Capable of a Surprise
Mountain View High School (21-12, 9-1 District)
Mountain View appeared poised for an outright district title before a final-night loss forced a shared championship. They remain 13-3 in their last 16 games and enter as a legitimate 4A contender.
Irvin High School (20-9, 7-1 District)
District champions and one of the region’s biggest turnaround stories, Irvin moves from rebuilding seasons to a 20-win campaign with confidence and momentum.
Andress High School (17-12, 6-4 District)
Back in the postseason with their first winning season since 2022-23, Andress stabilized late and returns to playoff relevance.
Hanks High School (18-10, 9-3 District)
Tied for second in 2-5A, Hanks remained in the district championship race until the final matchup. A strong 10-5 finish keeps them competitive entering the postseason.
