EL PASO, TEXAS -- We have reached the mid way point of the 2022 high school football season.  And this year, we are going to do something a little different.  We introduce our 2022 High School Football Midseason Offensive Awards!


Offensive Player of the Year:  SHAY SMITH, JR, QB/WR, FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL

As one of the top dual threat QB's in the Borderland (97/140 passing, 1280 yards, 18 TDs, 2 Ints and 67 car, 416 yards, 4 TDs), Smith has truly taken his game to an different level thus far in his Junior season.  Leading his Franklin Cougars to a 4 - 1 record and making them one of the top teams in the city, Smith definitly has been the brightest star amongst a city full of stars this season.

  

Best Quarterback: SHAY SMITH, JR, QB/WR, FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL

As one of the most electrifying athletes here in the Borderland, Shay Smith is our midseason choice for Top QB.  With a big arm and great pocket presence, Smith has come up big for the Cougars thus far this season and his production shows it (97/140 passing, 1280 yards, 18 TDs, 2 Ints).  

     Honorable Mention:

          - Evan Minjarez, JR, QB/RB, Eastwood High School (59/104, 1202 yards, 10 TDs, 2 Ints)

          - Issac Galvan, SR, QB, Montwood High School (74/97, 1190 yards, 13 TDs, 4 Ints)

          - Noah Moreno, JR, QB, Bel Air High School (62/96, 1121 yards, 11 TDs, 4 Ints)

     

Best Running Back:  GILBERT GAMBOA, SR, RB/OLB, MOUNTAIN VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

As the leading rusher in the borderland, Gilbert Gamboa is our midseason selection for Top Running back to this point in the season.  With 105 car, 798 yards, 7 TDs and 12 rec, 145 yards, 2 TDs; Gamboa is a threat both in the running and passing game and is one of the most versitle      players here in the borderland.     

     Honorable Mention:

          - Zach Martinez, JR, RB/OLB, Bel Air High School (87 car, 733 yards, 13 TDs)

          - Migel Rubio, JR, OLB/RB, Jefferson High School (103 car, 674 yards, 4 TDs)

          - Isaiah Beasley, SR, RB/DB, Parkland High School (107 car, 672 yards, 4 TDs)


Best Wide Receiver:  CHRISTOPHER DAVIS, JR, WR/DB, BEL AIR HIGH SCHOOL

With 26 receptions for 685 yards and 6 TD's, we feel that right now Davis is the most dynamic receiver here in the Borderland.

     Honorable Mention:

          - Beau Sparks, SR, WR/S, Franklin High School (46 rec, 662 yards, 12 TDs)

          - Hanzell Hernandez, JR, WR/FS, Mountain View High School (35 rec, 585 yards, 6 TDs)

          - Diego Oaxaca, JR, WR/RB. Montwood High School (33 receptions, 542 yards, and 9 TDs)
