El Paso, TX:  With 6 high school football games on tap for this evening, the Borderland had a lot of fireworks across the city.  There was a total of 400 points scored tonight as offenses here in the Borderland spread their wings and took flight.

Final Scores:

     Alpine 67 vs Tornillo 6

     Crane 56 vs Anthony 0

Clint 62 vs Mountain View 0

Austin 66 vs Bel Air 42

     Irvin 56 vs Hanks 44

     Eastwood 30 vs Franklin 26

Players that we were impressed with tonight:

Austin:

Their pair of running backs continued to show why they are the most feared backfield in the borderland.  #34 -- Isiah Whitterstauter and #42 -- William Rodriguez, III lived up to the hype and the expectations tonight as they ran wild on the Bel Air defense.  I'm not sure of their recruiting process / status, but any college at the Division II level and above that isn't look at one of these two running backs is crazy!

Bel Air:

RB #25 -- Sebastian De La Torre continues to impress each and every time that we see him play.  This young man has something special about him and definitely can play at the next level.

WR #11 Adam Gomez showed off a lot of skill tonight as he continues to impress with his ball skills and a willingness to make the tough plays.

OLB #20 -- Jude Blanco showed the type of ball hawking and toughness needed to play at the next level.  Only concerned will be his size, in my opinion.  However, you can't judge a player by their size alone, this young man has some intangibles that should be intriguing to alot of DIII and NAIA football programs.

Hanks:

QB #4 -- Luis Rivera displayed poise in the pocket and a rocket arm.  However, a couple of costly interceptions late ultimately lead to his team not winning the game, he definitely showed that he can play at the next level if given an opportunity.

WR #11 Aaron Candelaria showed a lot tonight.  Great hands and a willingness to go across the middle of the field.  He can play at the next level, the question will be at what level though?

Irvin:

RB #33 --  Joe Gomez is a handful.  Able to pick up the blitz and block, make the rough runs both inside and outside, and deliver punishing hits with his 180 lbs.  Definitely a problem for opposing defenders and has the potential to play at the next level -- we think that's NCAA DIII or NAIA -- if he wants.

QB #11 -- John Knutson was very impressive.  Poised in the pocket with a great skill set.  He has a lot of tools to build upon as he goes forward and is placing himself in position to be a prize recruit for some college program next year if he continues to produce on and off the football field.

Unfortunately we were unable to fully watch the Franklin vs Eastwood stream due to how choppy the video quality was.  I think my son summed it up best, they ran a slide show tonight, but with that said, both teams offenses showed up with Frankling making a late game mistake that cost them.  But the future there is bright at QB and should only get better.
